Why Swift is Important to Me
Hi guys! I want to tell you about this wonderful organization, Swift Youth Foundation, that supports a cause that I care very deeply about. Swift Youth Foundation is a nonprofit organization that helps provide underprivileged kids with resources and experiences that they otherwise may not have the opportunity to experience due to financial restrictions.
I got involved with Swift for the first time when I became a counselor for the sleepaway camp they offer over the summer. The kids that attend the camp come from Title I elementary schools or boys and girls clubs with which Swift has partnered. At Camp Swift, these children are able to experience the wonders of sleepaway camp for the first time. And, for a week they do not have to worry about whatever challenges they are facing at home. Camp offers them the chance to learn new skills, like canoeing or rock climbing, activities that many of them never had the opportunity to try. Camp also incorporates programs to encourage underprivileged children to plan for their futures and reach for their goals, even if they are starting off less fortunate than others.
I remember vividly that final day of camp the first year I volunteered at Camp Swift. All my campers were so sad to leave and couldn’t stop talking about all the fun that they had. I was just as sad to go as they were because being their counselor not only provided me with so many great memories to cherish, but it also opened my eyes to the struggles others are faced with. I could not wait to return to camp as a volunteer counselor the next summer and again was so happy to have done so.
Not Just a Camp
I couldn’t wait a whole year to be involved with Swift for a third summer! That is when I decided to become a teen leader for the organization and learned about all the other ways Swift provides for these kids throughout the school year. Every week Swift runs after school programs at the schools and boys and girls clubs and they even organize a carnival during the year. Getting to help plan and staff these activities has given me even more appreciation for the Swift Youth Foundation.
We Need Your Help
Because Swift is a nonprofit, it relies on the kindness of people like you to provide wonderful new experiences for Title I children. While it is a chaotic and scary time in many of our lives now, imagine the challenges Title I children are facing. If you could donate, even just $10, to Swift it would be greatly appreciated. Your donation will make sure Swift can continue to provide these kids with the life changing experiences they deserve.
