Wonder Women - we are all superheros

Miranda vs Cancer. I started fundraising for women dealing with cancer in 1998. Then in 2010, I needed a goal and an outlet for stress and there was my old friend the pool. I had a month to train and raise lots of money! Back then the swim was in October so I had all of September and I trained for reals! But when I got to the event, what had I trained so hard for? I was healthy, needed a stress outlet and a goal to raise money and get in shape. Then I came back again and again and again. By 2011 Alita, Chris and Sarah joined. By 2014 my friend Julie had beat breast cancer. She swam a mile, no problem! In 2015 my parents joined with Julie. My Dad had myleodysplastic syndrome and was the Men in wo-Men. Alita and Kathy were still on the team over the years! in 2019, I swam with them both. In 2020, on October 3rd, I was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. I missed the event because I was in the hospital. But I came back! Two years ago, encouraged by Alita and Addie, we swam a mile. I made it last year, too. It seems overwhelming this year but training is underway. One thing I’ve learned is that you have to roll with things in life, but you can’t control much! So here we go again!

I'm raising money for Womens Cancer Resource Center!

Dear Friends,

This spring, I’m participating in the Swim A Mile | Move A Mile for Women with Cancer to raise funds for the Women's Cancer Resource Center—and I hope you'll consider a contribution!

For 40 years, WCRC has been a resource for local women and families navigating cancer, providing free services like practical support, connections to care, and a place to feel understood. These services make a real difference for over 900 East Bay cancer patients and survivors WCRC serves each year.

Cancer is something that touches so many lives. WCRC ensures that no one has to navigate it alone, and I’m proud to support their work.
