Dear Friends,
Once upon a time, I was a swim team kid. Permanent tan lines, chlorine hair, the whole deal. That was... a while ago. Let's just say the last time I swam competitively, I didn't have a driver's license.
This May, I'm jumping back in — literally — for the Women's Cancer Resource Center's Swim A Mile for Women with Cancer. One mile. 70 laps.
I still swim. Sort of. About once a week in the summer, I hop in the pool with no plan, no pace, and no lap count. Mostly, I people-watch and distract my friend Jess in the next lane (she's focused; I have ADHD — it's a whole dynamic). Jess does this event every year, and I've always admired that. This year, I decided to stop admiring from afar and actually do it — to prove to myself I can, and to raise money for a cause that matters.
WCRC has spent 40 years making sure East Bay women and families facing cancer don't have to navigate it alone — providing free support, connections to care, and community for over 900 patients and survivors each year. That's worth swimming with purpose for once.
Your donation — any amount — goes directly to keeping WCRC's programs free and accessible. Will you sponsor my comeback?
