This is such a fun and inspiring event that I had the pleasure to volunteer at last summer for the first time as a safety boater. Hospice has played an active role in my life for the last few years across NY and PA, and it's fundraisers like this that help to truly make a difference in a patient's quality of life. Yes, Hospice is a Medicare benefit, most insurances also cover it, but there is so much more offered and that can greatly improve the quality of life for the patient, their families, and the community. Did you know that in addition to medical, social work, spiritual, and bereavement services for hospice families, Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley also provides community bereavement services including but not limited to When Grief comes to School, a podcast and the Road Maps journal series to guide end of life discussions and decision making? This has truly been the most humbling and supportive organizations that I have worked and has helped me process grief in my personal life, for those reasons, this is an organization I will always support and urge you to do the same.
