Did you know that more than 29 million Americans will experience an eating disorder in their lifetime and every 52 minutes someone dies as a direct result of their eating disorder? Did you also know less than ⅓ will ever receive access to care?
This hits all too close to home for me, my name is Audrey and for years I struggled with something I had no understanding over, I felt different I felt ashamed uncomfortable ridden with guilt. I was only as sick as my secrets, finding a community that accepted me changed my life being able to be myself and open and honest with who I was got me to find the help I needed. You are not alone, and I encourage if you struggle like I did and felt prisoner in your own life to reach out. Again you are not alone, recovery is a beautifully challenging journey and there's so much experience strength and hope that comes along with it. Grow isn't linear and neither are we. Everyday I am grateful to be given the chance to see this and live it.
My name is Scarlett, and I’m in recovery for an eating disorder. It wasn’t very long ago that I was stuck in the misery and confusion of my eating disorder, not knowing there was hope or that help even existed. The day I decided to test my luck and search for an eating disorder helpline was literally the day my life was saved. As I continue on my recovery journey I am continuously amazed at how many resources exist in the world for people like me. Connecting with others just like me has changed my life, and I will be forever grateful. I am super excited to be going to this rally and really look forward to the opportunity to experience the community coming together.
Scarlett is one of my best friends and I never would have found her without this amazing community. Together on September 24, we will be participating in the National Alliance for Eating Disorders' NOT ONE MORE: Rally for Recovery, TAMPA. Please support us as we join this global movement to ensure that NOT ONE MORE life is lost, NOT ONE MORE child is taken, and NOT ONE MORE precious moment is destroyed by this insidious disease.
Proceeds from this event will directly fund their free, weekly, therapist-led, in-person support groups in the Tampa Bay area, as well as our virtual groups virtual eating disorder support groups! In 2021 alone, more than 18,900 individuals from all 50 states and 72 countries around the world attended Alliance groups.
The Alliance is the only national nonprofit organization that provides free, weekly, therapist-led eating disorders support groups; referral services for all levels of care; low-cost therapeutic services for uninsured and underinsured individuals; and unique and empowering Southern Smash events. Simply put, The Alliance saves lives.
