Tater Tot (named by the BVSPCA) was found by two good Samaritans biking in Brandywine Creek State Park with multiple infected, deep lacerations on her torso and limbs. The two took immediate action and called the Delaware Office of Animal Welfare (OAW) for support.
Our friends at the OAW rushed Tater Tot over to our New Castle Campus where she was immediately evaluated with x-rays and advanced diagnostics. It was clear that Tater Tot’s condition was extremely severe and she was going to need extensive, specialty veterinary care, so she was transferred to our partners at a local VCA Animal Hospital.
Tater Tot's prognosis was grim; she had severe infections and her abdomen was septic requiring emergency surgery to give her the best chance to survive the night. Amazingly, she successfully pulled through her surgery and is now recovering in ICU where she is being closely monitored and continues her fight.
At the BVSPCA every life counts, and while the odds were stacked against Tater Tot and according to a team of doctors her chances were slim, we believed that she deserved a chance. And for Tater Tot we are committed to her fight and continuing her critical care!
