Kainoa Mark Watson

"On the night you were born the moon smiled with such wonder that the stars peeked in to see you and the night wind whispered, "Life will never be the same." Because there had never been anyone like you ever in the world. So enchanted with you were the wind and the rain that they whispered the sound of your wonderful name. "Kainoa" Heaven blew every trumpet and played every horn on the wonderful, marvelous night you were born." -Nancy Tillman

When I Was a Baby

By: Kenji (3 years old)

When I was in my mommy's belly

And we were at the hospital.

And my mommy used her muscles

And pushed me out.

And there was another baby.

And mommy pushed him out.

And he didn't breathe.

And he died.

And now he is in heaven.

Grief, I've learned, is really just love. It's all the love you want to give but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.
