Every 9 seconds a woman is abused.
That means that by the time you finish reading this email, another woman will be the victim of violence.
As you may know, this year, I took a new role at Lutheran Social Services (LSS), and one of our programs is CHOICES, the community's only domestic violence shelter.
Being a part of CHOICES is one of the reasons that I took the role; I care deeply about this issue, and here's why:
- Because everyone deserves to be safe in their home.
- Because this issue impacts men and women, but it disproportionately impacts women with physical intimidation, and I care deeply about issues impacting women and children.
- Because violence has escalated since Covid-19, and there are more people who need our help.
- Because the work that is done at CHOICES changes the trajectory of people's lives. It is possible to build a new life, free of violence, and to teach your children that this is not normal! In my short time at LSS, I have met so many people who have used CHOICES to do that!
- Because, my second day at LSS, I was planting flowers with some of the residents and a 12-year-old boy was helping me. We struck up a conversation, during which he shared that he hopes to be what I am when he grows up. He wants to help people like his mom. I was both inspired and heart broken. This 12-year-old boy deserves the opportunity to be a kid; he should not have to worry about that!
I'm reaching out because CHOICES needs your help! In the last five years, we have more than doubled our services, and we need your help to ensure that we can provide this lifesaving and life-transforming work to the next person that needs it. The funds I raise as part of Team CHOICES will be used to provide victims with a safe place to go and the care and support they need to create a safer future, free from violence.
It has been nine seconds since you started reading, let’s be there for the next woman.
Please consider a generous gift! Thank you!
In Gratitude,
Rachel
