Since 1969, Special Children’s Charities (SCC) has been the driving force behind inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago.
I have had the opportunity to directly experience the impact SCC has on individuals and the community. I’ve been a part of students getting to try sports like skiing, bocce ball, track and field, basketball, flag football, and tennis. I've been there as teams form, friendships deepened, self-esteem grew and genuine personalities came out. I've had many great days, surrounded by a well supported and organized community. And not only have I been able to watch relationships flourish within school, these relationships have the opportunity to grow into adulthood.
Special Children's Charities encourages physical and mental health for children AND adults with intellectual and developmental disbilities by developing and funding recreational, educational, and social activities.
Special Children’s Charities aims to transcend boundaries and redefine possibilities by serving as a symbol of empowerment and inclusivity within both the disability community and the City of Chicago.
The spirit of accomplishment, inclusion, and joy that are part of the marathon experience are what we strive to provide for thousands of our participants in all 77 Chicago neighborhoods. With your help, we are creating a more inclusive Chicago–one mile at a time.
