My Story

I am gearing up for the Bank of America Chicago 2024 Marathon, a journey that extends beyond personal triumph. As a Special Education teacher in the heart of Chicago Public Schools, my passion for fostering inclusivity and empowering my students has become the driving force behind my decision to run for a cause that holds a special place in my heart – Special Olympics.

In my role, I witness the boundless enthusiasm and joy that sports bring to my students, particularly through Special Olympics field trips. These outings have become cherished moments for my students, offering them the chance to engage in a diverse array of sports, including flag football, bowling, soccer, basketball, softball, and even skiing. The Special Olympics organization has been a beacon of opportunity for our students, providing a platform for them to competitively participate in sports that might not otherwise be available within the school setting.

The impact of Special Olympics extends far beyond the playing field, enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities by promoting physical fitness, courage, and the sheer joy of athletic competition. It's not just about the sports – it's about fostering a sense of community, sharing gifts, developing skills, and building lasting friendships.

The funds raised from this marathon endeavor will be directed towards supporting Special Olympics and its noble mission. These donations will play a crucial role in ensuring that athletes with intellectual disabilities continue to access the activities they love. By contributing to Special Olympics, we are investing in a world where individuals of all abilities can thrive, experience the joy of sports, and participate in a community that celebrates their unique gifts.

I believe connecting people through sports and physical activity is instrumental in spreading a culture of inclusion, acceptance, and joy. Special Olympics Chicago/Special Children's Charities is working to create a more inclusive Chicago... one mile at a time!

I hope that you consider supporting my efforts, and am so grateful for your devoted support to our life-changing mission.
