I grew up playing sports and experienced firsthand the benefits of physical activity and the meaningful connections from participating in organized sports. With chapters across the United States, Special Olympics creates these connections through sports, in an inclusive, safe and uplifting enviroment.
Whether you are a participant or volunteer, you can feel the community support and camraderie fostered by Special Olympics! I have personally seen the positive impact Special Olympics has on individuals by making sports a more inclusive place. Several members of my family have participated in Special Olympics and I’ve seen the joy the organization brings to them and many others across the US.
Naturally, when I saw Team Special Olympics had spots open for the Chicago Marathon, I jumped to register. I am so excited to raise money for this organization that is near to my heart (and run 26.2 miles in the process.)
Team Special Olympics Chicago is a group of runners dedicated to supporting thousands of Chicagoans with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and I am proud to be a member of this team! If you would like to donate follow the link below.
Also, I am extremely grateful for any tips on running a marathon (first time marathon runner!) and how to survive training in NYC during the summer heat :)
Thanks!
Carly
