Running the Chicago Marathon in 2023 was a challenge with my ankle injury 3 weeks before the race...I was unable to hit the under 4 HOUR MARK whcih was always my goal... this year I am doing it. I am stronger - faster and ready to take this BEAST ON AGAIN! #LFG
As I lace up my running shoes and prepare for this race, I find myself compelled to participate for several deeply personal reasons. From my recovery journey after an ACL injury 2 years ago - my ankle injury last year - to the boundless love I have for my wife and the inspiration I draw from my three amazing children, Everly Rose, Elijah Avila, and Leo Avila, the Chicago Marathon represents more than just a physical feat—it embodies triumph over adversity, devotion to family, and to never giving up. I can feel my loving mother who passed 11 years ago, saying you can do this MIJO. #LOVE That alone has me pumped to get started.

This exceptional team provides support to runners participating in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on behalf of Special Olympics.
