This year, for my birthday, I’m running the Chicago Marathon to support Special Children’s Charities.
My running journey began 20 years ago right here in Chicago, so it’s incredibly meaningful to come full circle by running my first marathon in this city—for a cause so close to my heart.
As a mother of two healthy boys, Tyler and Mason, I feel deeply grateful. But I’ve also become profoundly aware of the challenges faced by children with special needs. Supporting them has always been important to me, and this marathon marks what I hope will be the first of many opportunities to give back and stay involved in the community.
Every child’s smile is a light in the world. I look forward to seeing many of those radiant smiles along the race course and at the celebrations throughout Chicago.
Since 1969, Special Children’s Charities has been the driving force behind inclusion and empowerment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Chicago.
Special Children’s Charities aims to transcend boundaries and redefine possibilities by serving as a symbol of empowerment and inclusivity within both the disability community and the City of Chicago.
The spirit of accomplishment, inclusion, and joy that are part of the marathon experience are what we strive to provide for thousands of our participants in all 77 Chicago neighborhoods. With your help, we are creating a more inclusive Chicago–one mile at a time.
