Hi all. Some of you probably know I've been working at RED Academy as an instructor for a while now. During my time here, I've met so so many bright students who started with having little or no background in computer science to being able to confidently develop fully functional websites. It's been a real joy seeing them grow so much in such a short period of time. That said, I do realize that these students are fortunate enough that they're able to afford an education here, and not everyone is that lucky. That is why I'm participating in United Way's Tech Grind. In about a month, our team here at RED Academy will be racing against other Tech companies from Vancouver to be the first ones to hike to the top of Grouse mountain to raise money for local kids to provide them access to educational after school activities through United Way's School's Out program.
At RED Academy we're all about community and empowering future leaders in design and technology to drive social change and build the future they desire.
Giving back is why we do what we do. It’s the basis of our curriculum, the foundation of our education model, and the reason we show up day in and day out. Why? Because it matters.
Every step of the journey towards the future matters and that's why we're supporting United Way's School's Out programs which helps vulnerable elementary students in the Lower Mainland make constructive use of their time outside of school. The programs help kids achieve greater academic success, increase their self-confidence and self-esteem, and develop positive social behaviours and lifestyles. And who knows, maybe some of these kids will be future RED grads, making positive social impact through design and technology in your community.
In 2017-2018 United Way of the Lower Mainland was able to help over 5,500 kids participate in high-quality School’s Out programs. Let's help even more kids this year!
