Nearly 20 years ago I heard about an organization of University of Texas students riding their bikes from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for cancer research. I thought it was crazy. Then cancer did what it does and I found myself needing a way to feel like I could make a difference in the fight.

In 2012 I completed the ride in memory of my grandfather, in honor/memory of my grandmother (who passed from cancer on Day 58 of my ride), in memory of our teammate Ruel, in memory of a good friend's father, and in honor of my uncle.

In the 13 years since crossing the finish line many more names have been added to the list of reasons I "ride," so I continue to be involved in this meaningful organization. Last year, I served on the Board of Directors in the role of Board Chair and this year I'm wrapping up my chair responsibilities in the role of Past Chair. In the summer of 2026 another 40 students will set off to ride from Austin to Anchorage. We ask each of the riders to raise a minimum of $7500 and as a member of the board I have the same responsibility, so I'm asking for your help! Every donation—big or small—helps me reach my fundraising goal and directly impacts this important cause.
