Hi! I'm Mirya, a journalism major passionate about health equity and accessibility. I’m riding for the people in my life who have been affected by cancer.
I ride for my cousin Davis, who lost his battle with cancer when he was 22 — the age I will be when my ride takes place. I ride for my granny, who fought breast cancer twice as an immigrant and single mother of two. I ride for my mom, who always talks about the community that supported her family during my grandmother’s battles with cancer — the big and little acts of kindness from local organizations and church groups, the strangers that would provide my grandmother with rides to chemotherapy, a wig for when her hair fell out, home cooked meals, care that a low income immigrant family would otherwise not have access to. I ride because of the access to care Texas 4000 provides for people like my grandma, who turned 80 this year!
I would greatly appreciate any amount that you can contribute to our cause, and encourage you to share my page with your network! Please reach out to me if I can ride for you, a family member, a friend, or somebody you know, and share my page with anyone who would be willing to support! Thank you for reading, and I can't wait to embark on this incredible journey with such an inspiring group of people.
