Hi! Welcome to our team page! I’m Audrea, the team leader. In memory of my parents, Don & Evie West, we want to raise money for the community and awareness about Hemophilia! My dad had Hemophilia B. When he was born in rural Alabama in 1952, he had a life expectancy of 11-12 yrs old. No factor replacement was available to him until he was 18 yrs old. By that time, he had so much joint damage from all the bleeds, many that almost killed him! He never thought that he’d live to be married, have kids, or grandkids. Obviously, we’re here, so he did! He lives to the age of 72 when he passed from congestive heart failure in February 2025. Our parents were married 52 years! My mom was my dad’s caregiver until she could no longer even take care of herself due to an aggressive form of Parkinson’s. She recently passed away as well in March 2026. They had me & my 2 sisters.(Jessica & Donya). Myself & Jessica have hemophilia. We didn’t know this until we were adults because years ago it was only thought that males could have it. Women were ignored for years. Many of us still struggle with access to care, My son, Jonathan, has hemophilia. My sister, Jessica, has 2 sons with Hemophilia(DeShaun & Kobe). We know statistically it’s a rare disease, but for us it’s always been a part of our life! There have been so many advances in recent years! We’ve come so farm but still have far to go!
