Through my Teknovation reporting, I have learned how important it is for women to feel empowered to start their own businesses. Girl Scouts gives girls the life skills, boldness, and confidence to do so. After all, 53% of female entrepreneurs are former Girl Scouts! 

When I was a Girl Scout, I valued the opportunity to talk to strangers & “close a sale” during cookie season. (Plus, I remember being quite competitive with it). The Girl Scouts’ mission is helping this next generation of young women become civically & economically engaged, and I couldn’t think of a better mission to stand behind!

Katelyn Biefeldt leads PYA’s Teknovation initiative, connecting the firm to entrepreneurial activity, regional enhancement efforts, and business growth across East Tennessee. She is an award-winning multimedia journalist who has been sharing stories about the Knoxville community for the past five years, first through local TV news & now through her role at PYA. 

Katelyn loves her husband, Chase, and their two dogs, Benji and Ada. Outside of the office, they enjoy playing golf and soccer, and are active members of their church – City Hills. Katelyn is also a mentor with TN Achieves & a big sister with Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee, which she considers one of the most rewarding experiences in her life.
