Multiple sclerosis is a chronic debilitating disease that attacks the central nervous system. Symptoms of MS range from severe fatigue and pain, to weakness or paralysis of the limbs. As the disease progresses, many may lose the ability to walk, or perform normal daily activities without assistance. There is no cure. MS affects about 5000 people living here in Southwest Florida.
The MS Center of Southwest Florida is a community center supporting mind, body, and spirit. The center is a unique organization offering a comprehensive wellness program consisting of therapies proven to help people manage the symptoms that affect their everyday lives.
Through specialized exercise programs and social activities, participants realize improvement in mobility, balance, and an overall feeling of well-being. We have built a community of caring, where people with MS can receive care, as well as support each other.
The center serves well over 500 people each year by providing direct services, information, and referrals. We will be celebrating our 20th year in 2020.
The MS Center is not a chapter of any national organizations, and is supported entirely by fundraising events, like the Touched by MS Team Challenge and individual donations. We need your help.
Start a team, send a few emails, do a couple of facebook posts (we’ll provide the wording if you want) and compete for some great prizes – how does a free massage sound?
We will also celebrate your efforts at Touched by MS Day on November 23 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church (inside and air conditioned).
