Please join us in helping the Down Syndrome Foundation of Florida to strike down barriers.

The Foundation's annual fundraiser is on February 27th and Team Callie54 is raising money to assist the Foundation in providing programming and scholarships throughout the year to help individuals with Down Syndrome reach their full potential and to help create more inclusive communities. 

Callie has participated in many of the Foundation's programs which have made a significant difference in her life. She currently participates in multiple Foundation programs such as Club 321 which is a hangout each month for all of the kids in her age group. The Foundation programs have taught her how to ride a bike, learn social skills, provided tutoring support and paid for speech therapy, just to name a few of the many benefits she has received. Lorin continues to be on the board of directors and helps to guide the Foundation’s growth which has expanded from 1,100 to 1,800 families statewide over the past five years. 

What does the future hold for Callie? We question it often. Sometimes we think she can accomplish complex things like going to college or driving a car. Other days we struggle to see those things happen. What we do know is that she will be the best Callie that she can be. Since last year’s fundraiser Callie has won a gold medal in the Special Olympics Florida State games in golf. She also won two skating medals and is going for a third in a few weeks with a new program she has been working on all winter. 

School is a hard balancing act trying to find the right level for Callie to study and test at, but she never complains about school and plugs away each year. Her reading continues to improve along with her comprehension which is our main focus. Callie turns 16 in May and she is very interested in getting her first job this summer as she prepares for high school in the fall.
