New Moms is an organization in my community that supports young moms by helping them improve their economic mobility and escape cycles of poverty and violence. New Moms supports with job training, housing assistance, child development, and more. Institutional and systemic racism perpetrated against Black and Brown people, bias against adolescent moms, and disinvestment in communities of color sends a harmful message to young families. Living in poverty and experiencing scarcity can impact brain development and take a toll on long-term individual and community health. Although 97% of the young families that come to New Moms are experiencing poverty, all of them seek a future of shared prosperity with their children.

New Moms believes in the strength, skills, and potential of all families and communities to pursue and achieve their goals.

New Moms believes in the strength, ability, and potential of all families, staff, and stakeholders to pursue and achieve their goals. They partner with young moms and their kids in a “2-Generation” approach that puts moms in the driver’s seat as they construct the foundation for their family’s well-being. Understanding the interconnected goals and well-being of young moms and their kids means they engage with and support the goals of whole families at once.
