NEW MOMS needs our help!
COVID-19 has had a huge impact on New Moms cancelling their 2 major fundraisers: the Kitchen Walk and the Gala; while increasing their costs for PPE, sanitizers, cleaning supplies, etc.
For over 3 decades our family has connected with New Moms. It has been such a blessing to see the positive impact for single moms and their children as they have:
- stable housing;
- classes in parenting, literacy and spiritual direction;
- job training; and
- needed support.
Their founder, Ellen Kogstad-Thompson, has become a dear friend and an inspiration. Her humility, vision, and continuous commitment is incredible! Recently she and I reminisced about our early connection with New Moms and its humble beginnings. She remembered me unpacking our 4 sons (Eric and Scott were age 2; Brian was 8; and Todd was 12) and coming to the “Y” in Logan Square. We brought bright blue, stable folding chairs to replace the unstable dumpster finds they were using. We organized an annual Mother’s day celebration. We brought in bags of groceries for a cooking day while sharing a new recipe. We were privileged to host the first two New Moms benefits. My how time flies.
The theme for this New Moms fundraiser, to get through COVID-19, is: TOGETHER WE THRIVE.
We are asking if you would join together with us to assist New Moms with their immediate needs.
