Crash Story: On October 27, 2019, Anna Guardipee and her dear friend Jenny Burton were returning to Virginia after celebrating Anna’s granddaughter’s baptism in North Carolina. Their lives were forever changed when a distracted semi-truck driver failed to notice stopped traffic on I-77, crashing into their vehicle and forcing it into the semi-truck ahead. Both women were air-lifted to the hospital. Jenny tragically passed away on November 2, never regaining consciousness, and Anna survived but was paralyzed from the waist down.
Determined to seek justice, Anna and her community organized a letter-writing campaign to ensure the driver was held accountable. Their efforts led to the driver pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and assault with a deadly weapon, resulting in a 10-month jail sentence.
Relationship/Involvement with TSC: Anna’s experience inspired her to become a dedicated advocate for truck safety. As a board member, volunteer, and supporter of the Truck Safety Coalition, Anna works tirelessly to prevent others from experiencing similar tragedies. Her passion and resilience are a driving force in TSC’s mission to improve road safety.
