Crash Story:
On December 27, 1989, Tina Friedrich's life changed forever when her sister, Kris Mercurio, along with Kris’ husband Alan and their two children, Brandie and Anthony, were killed in a fiery crash involving an overturned tanker truck with faulty brakes. The tanker truck’s brakes locked, causing the trailer to overturn and block the freeway. With no room to maneuver, the Mercurio family’s vehicle collided with the tanker, which exploded on impact.

The tragedy was entirely preventable, as the driver had disregarded earlier brake issues. This profound loss continues to deeply impact Tina and her family, fueling her passion for honoring her sister’s memory by advocating for safer roads and stronger regulations.

Relationship/Involvement with TSC:
Tina has been an active member of the Truck Safety Coalition (TSC) for over three decades, dedicating her time as a volunteer and community leader. In 2024, she embraced a new role as an Ambassador for TSC, amplifying the organization’s mission to prevent truck crash tragedies and provide support for crash survivors and families. Tina’s unwavering commitment and her ability to connect with others make her an invaluable advocate within the Truck Safety Coalition.

Why Supporting TSC Matters:
“Through TSC, I’ve found a family that understands the lasting pain of losing a loved one to a preventable crash. Together, we work to save lives and ensure no one else endures what we’ve gone through. Supporting TSC means honoring my sister’s memory and creating a safer future for all.” - Tina Silva

As an Ambassador, Tina continues to channel her grief into action, inspiring others to join the movement for meaningful change in truck safety standards.
