I relied on organizations similar to New Moms, as well as the kindness and generosity of strangers, to navigate the foster care system as a teenager. I was fortunate enough to thrive despite my circumstances and build a life for myself. Now that I am in a position to do so, I wanted to give back to women, specifically women of color, who are also looking to thrive in their lives. Once I learned about New Moms' mission and the resources being provided to new and expecting mothers, I was thrilled to be a part of an organization doing this work in my own community. It's also a chance to pay homage to those in my life who have helped me overcome so many obstacles to be where I am today. My service in the community is always in their honor.
