We are holding our annual BBBS Walk for Kids Sake this coming November 1st and it would be great if the Cromwell Hills community could rally behind a worthy cause. It is a very fun day at Wyndham World Wide's headquarters at the first light off Route 10 west of 287. There are activities for the children and a beautiful walk in the fall woods with volunteers handing out candy to the children in their costume along the walk. Please consider joining my team or donating to this great cause be it $10, $20 or more. It all adds up.
As many of you know I became a Big Brother to a terrific boy 3 and a half years ago that is now 15 years old. (Many of you have seen me at the pool with Ryan.) His family had been through a terrible ordeal and without going into details his father and father's family abandoned him and his siblings. His mom is great but struggles and was smart enough to reach out to BBBS for help in providing strong guidance to her children. (Each of the four siblings have Big Brothers and a Big Sister.)
BBBS has a tremendous impact on helping insure children stay in school and off of drugs and trouble. There are countless success stories of children whose lives would not be where they are today without the help of their Big Brothers and Sisters. I became so impressed with the value of early support to prevent a lost life for them personally and for society as a whole that I joined the Board of Directors.
To insure proper screenings and continued follow up of matches between Big Brothers/Sisters and their littles cost about $1,000 per child per year. Our chapter Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern NJ has an outstanding staff and record of which I am extremely proud.
