Thank you for helping me be the voice for those who cannot speak. The last week of March, I came across a stray cat in a parking lot who clearly needed medical attention. I put out a can of wet food to gain his trust (what cat lady doesn't carry these around in her car?). To my surprise, although timid, he slowly walked up to me after he ate and nudged my hand with his head. This poor boy was sick and heartbroken. I imagine he had a family at some point if he was that sweet. He let me pick him up without a carrier and I brought him to my car. I called the Harrisburg Humane Society, where the staff was compassionate and helpful. The vet team took him when I arrived. He was covered in fleas, had an ear mite infestation, upper respiratory infection, and an eye infection. They kept him and he received medical attention. He is now recovering and will be able to have a second chance at a loving family. The crazy part of all of this is that my invoice was only $70 after everything they did for him. I'm so grateful that this team allowed me to give Victor the care he needed. I am running a 5k at the end of May to raise money for the Harrisburg Humane Society so that people can continue to lean on them for affordable animal care.
