I decided early in my nursing career that dementia patients were my passion.

I became involved with the Alzheimer/Parkinson Association in 1986, when it was a very small group that met monthly at the Community Church.  That was our spot for several years, and we helped folks through the month via phone calls.

As the need progressed, and the needs of caregivers grew, I got board approval to start support groups outside the monthly meeting.  In 1987 I started a Parkinson support group for those with PD and their caregivers, and a group for caregivers that were managing their loved ones with dementia at home. In 1989 I became a board member, and served on the board for many years helping with programs, groups, outreach, and fundraising.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I admire and am in awe of the creativity, the diligence, the selflessness of caregivers!   As much as my group members will tell me I help them, they have provided me with so many novel ideas, with words of acceptance and wisdom beyond belief, and have shown how unconditional love is alive and well in our world!

I walk for each of the many I have known, for the many who have passed to the next world, and for those still striving to provide the best possible care and advocacy for their loved ones.

Please join me in raising money to provide our community with continued resources for caregiver assistance and groups!  If you are unable to walk, don't let that stop you from donating whatever you can for this worthwhile and effective organization!
