In August and September of 2018, I spent 27 days in two different hospitals. What I thought was an asthma attack for two weeks turned out to be extensive bilateral pulmonary embolisms. On August 18, I realized I was about to be in for the fight of my life. My lungs were full of clots, which in turn caused the right side of my heart to fail. On August 22, I was transferred up to Columbia Hospital(New York Presbyterian) in NYC to be put on life support. My organs started shutting down. By the grace of God and the amazing medical team at Columbia, I left the hospital on September 13 2018, but my story was not over. From this event, I found out that I have a rare autoimmune disorder. I will live the rest of my life being monitored by many different specialists and will remain on medication to lower my chances of clots. This walk and the NBCA are so important to me because if I was more aware of the symptoms of blood clots and pulmonary embolisms, I may have caught them sooner and not had to go through everything that I did. Pulmonary Embolisms nearly killed me and I don't want them to take the life of someone else. I am stronger than the clot! Thank you for any and all support!
