Weasey and Moni's Fundraising Page
Greetings Friends! I hope you will be able to help Weasey and me in this year’s Walk & Wag!
Meet my current foster Weasey the world’s first Pittie-Pin-Inu!
Weasel, as he is known formally on his adoptable dog page, came to the Humane Society of Huron Valley as a stray last summer and was fearful of most everything in the big scary world. We did his dog-dna and it turns out that he is a pitmix mixed with supermutt (shepherd, boxer, chowchow), Shiba Inu, and Miniature Pinscher. He’s got that fox-like appearance of Shiba Inu -- his nickname is even Fox Boy, because of those cute fox ears and pointy nose.
Since being in foster, Weasey has learned that he LOVES tennis balls and could play fetch for hours if someone would just keep throwing those tennis balls. He loves exploring and going on walks and is super speedy and runs zoomies in the backyard. His combination of Shiba Inu and Miniature Pinscher means he is wary of strangers and wants to engage with people and other dogs on his own terms.
He will chase just about anything that moves: rabbits, squirrels, birds, butterflies, flying insects! But that’s what makes him so good at playing fetch. If you have two tennis balls going, he will bring one back and will drop it at your feet in order to convince you to throw the second ball.
He will sometimes lie in the corner observing everything that is going on, but will also come and curl up next to you and want to be near you. But because he isn’t the most snuggly of dogs, when he does want pets or gives kisses or wants to lie next to you, it is all the more special.
Weasey is fully housebroken and prefers to be loose in the house, although he likes to eat in his crate—but like with everything, he always does it at his own pace.
Dogs like Weasey are the reason why it is so important to support the HSHV and its foster program. Fosters gets whatever medical support they need from the HSHV, and can take as much time as is needed to learn how to be a dog and live with a family.
Fostering is an important opportunity to save dogs who need extra time to heal from medical procedures, who don't do well in the shelter, need some additional socializing, or who never had the chance to learn to just be a pet. In foster homes, these dogs learn how to love and trust humans, and most importantly get ready to be adopted! Through fostering we help animals that never would be given a chance at the loving lives they deserve. This is important work that has helped the Humane Society of Huron Valley have such an extraordinary save rate.
The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) receives thousands of lost, stray, abandoned, abused and owner-surrendered animals each year. No animal is ever turned away. In 2024, they had 5200 adoptions and helped return 534 lost animals to their families! Nearly, half of the animals adopted were cared for through the HSHV Foster Program.
HSHV has the highest “save rate” among similarly sized animal shelters in Michigan and is classified as a “no-kill” shelter, as defined by Maddie’s Fund, a leader in the no-kill movement. Your donations make all of that possible--sponsoring me in the Walk&Wag is an important part of that.
You may not realize, the Humane Society of Huron Valley is a private nonprofit organization. It is not affiliated with any other humane society, local or national –despite the similarity in name with other organizations. HSHV relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to fund all of its programs.
Your tax-deductible donation will be used wisely. Thanks to the HSHV's fiscal prudence, accountability, and transparency, 2024 is the 14th year in a row the HSHV received an “exceptional” rating with 4 of 4 stars from Charity Navigator, America's largest independent charity evaluator. Only 1% of charities they rate have received 12 or more consecutive 4-star evaluations.
I hope you will be willing to support my fosters and me in our work for the 2025 Walk and Wag Fundraiser. Together we can make a big difference!
