Use social media

Log in to your Fundraising Dashboard and click "Connect to Facebook"! You can also copy/paste the link to your page into your Instagram bio or into a post on X/Threads/Bluesky/your platform of choice (find your url by logging into your Fundraising Dashboard, then scrolling down to the "Links" section).

Here are some sample social post ideas. Feel free to use the image on the left of the puppy Cricket, or photos of your own pet!

  1. "I'm participating in Walk & Wag to raise funds for animals, because [insert personal connection here]"
  2. "Walk & Wag is more than just a race; it's an important fundraiser for the animals! All donations to my page help the Humane Society of Huron Valley's lifesaving programs, including adoption, animal cruelty investigation, wildlife rescue, outreach to at-risk youth, seniors and low-income pet parents, affordable veterinary care and much more!"
  3. "I'm fundraising for Walk & Wag, to help animals like Cricket pictured here. She and her siblings had no one to care for them, but they were given medical care and lots of TLC until they were old enough to find loving homes. Can you help me reach my goal? Any amount makes a difference!"

Is it your birthday?

Or your pet's birthday? Or your anniversary? Ask for donations to your page to celebrate the special day!

EVERYBODY loves a handwritten letter!

Offline fundraising is even more personal, and super effective! Write notes to 5 friends and pop them in the mail, asking for support. Sign them from your pet!

Does your workplace have an employee break room? Put up a sign with the link to donate!

Here is a flyer you can print out and use. Write your name in the blank space at the bottom so that folks know how to find your page!

Dine to Donate

Many restaurants will donate a portion of their sales if you get people in the door! Whether it's your family, your soccer team, your DnD group, your knitting circle -- invite a group of friends to dine out for a cause! Please email development@hshv.org to let us know you're holding an event, so that we can ensure the donation gets credited to your Walk & Wag page when it arrives.

Here are some restaurants you could try:

Employer Matching Gifts

Lots of workplaces will match donations made by employees! Ask your HR department whether yours is one of them. You may need HSHV's tax ID number: 38-1474931.

Email development@hshv.org if you have any questions, or if you need any paperwork from HSHV to set up the matching gift!

Get Goofy

Tell supporters that if you reach your goal you’ll dye your hair blue, wear your clothes backwards for a day, shave your head, get a pie in the face, anything goofy you think would be fun!

There are also all kinds of less-goofy ways to get creative: send a homemade thank you card from your pet to anyone who donates. Known for your baking? Hold a bake sale or offer cookies for donations of $50 or more! Have a talent, like photography, painting, yard work, singing, writing poetry, etc? Send a song, a poem, etc to your top supporters!
