Why I'm running!
My wife and I have been foster parents for over 5 years and have been able to foster more than a dozen children in that time. We've been through all of the rewarding highs and the incredibly crushing lows of foster care. We've been able to help all types of kids and their families, but one in particular is why I'm choosing to run this 10k for Dougie's Team. This summer we we were able to foster an incredible little boy that was autistic. We had been through a little bit of training on autism, but really didn't know exactly what we were getting into when we said yes to him coming to stay with us. During the time he was with us we had our eyes opened to the intense challenges of caring for someone with nonverbal autism. I want to help raise money for Dougie's Team so we can help more of the families that are caring for loved ones on the spectrum.
