My Epilepsy Story
My journey into life with Epilepsy began in 2004 when, without any warning, I suffered my first massive grand mal seizure while I was at work. I remember how scary it was, waking up after being unconscious, with firefighters and EMT's standing over me. I also remember it being a very scary experience for all of my co-workers to watch happen. As a result of the seizure, I had gotten a concussion and lacerations needing stitches, but I was so thankful it happened before I got into my car and drove, which I was about to do when the seizure hit. After a trip to the hospital and further tests, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. In the years that have followed, there have been many challenges living life with Epilepsy. I've been on many medications, seen many dr's, had several hospital stays, procedures and tests, surgery for a VNS and had issues with driving and working at times. But, despite these challenges, I haven't let Epilepsy stop me from living my life. I have my Master's Degree in Social Work, have been married to my loving husband Jim for 13 years and have the two most beautiful, happy little boys (ages 9 & 2).
Iv'e been doing the Epilepsy Walk for many years now. The Epilepsy Foundation of AZ is a wonderful organization. The money raised from the walk will go toward many of the programs that provide people with Epilepsy and their families. I've volunteered with two of these programs, as a social worker at Camp Candlelight and a peer mentor. The money will also go toward research and treatment.
Thank you for your continued love and support.
