At 32 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My life changed overnight as I faced a year of treatment—chemo, surgery, radiation, and more surgery. Fast forward ten years, and I am proud to be cancer-free, raising two amazing post-cancer babies and continuing my work as a nurse and healthcare leader. Today, I lead teammate health and safety for Atrium Wake Forest, using my experience to help others navigate their health journeys.
Outside of work, I’m all about self-care and staying active—whether it's a kickboxing session at 9Round, a spa day, or a good retail therapy session. I also love Mexican food, margaritas, and sour beers, so don’t be surprised if you see me celebrating in my pink wig at my favorite local spots!
When I was diagnosed, my first thought was survival. But as treatment started, my anxiety shifted to how this journey would change my life socially, emotionally, and mentally. That’s when I found Carolina Breast Friends—completely by chance. Driving down Morehead after an appointment at Levine Cancer Institute, I saw The Pink House, and something about the monarch butterfly on the sign pulled me in.
From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of calm. I was met with warmth, understanding, and immediate support. The Young Survivors group became my safe space, a place where I connected with women like me—navigating the same challenges, but also talking about life beyond cancer.
Now, as a Big Wig, it’s my turn to give back. I’ve seen firsthand the impact of CBF, and I want to make sure the next young woman who walks through The Pink House doors receives the same support that changed my life.
Where You'll Find Me in My Pink Wig
I’ll be rocking my wig everywhere I go:
At work, rounding in the hospital and on Zoom meetings
At the gym, training at 9Round
At the nail salon and spa, because self-care is essential
At my kids’ soccer games, cheering them on
At dinner with friends, because Mexican food and margaritas are a must
How You Can Help
This year, I’m building a team to help raise funds for Carolina Breast Friends. My corporate connections will help bring in big dollars, while my friends, family, and community spots like my gym, spa, and my child’s school and daycare will add to the total. I may even host a Botox party fundraiser—because why not have fun while supporting a great cause?
You can join my team, donate, and help spread the word—because no one should go through breast cancer alone.
