WHY I WALK

Shelter is a basic human right—a cornerstone of dignity, security, and hope. I firmly believe that no one should have to endure the hardship of living without a safe place to call home. My passion for addressing homelessness stems not only from this belief but also from my personal experience with housing insecurity. I understand, on a deeply personal level, the fear, uncertainty, and struggle that accompany the absence of stable shelter.

Experiencing housing insecurity gave me a profound sense of empathy for those who are unsheltered. It showed me how quickly life can unravel and how systemic barriers can make finding stability nearly impossible for many. Every individual living on the streets has a story—circumstances that led them there, dreams that feel out of reach, and a desire for the dignity that so many of us take for granted.

Ending homelessness is not just a moral imperative; it is an achievable goal if we approach it with compassion, creativity, and determination. I believe in solutions that address the root causes of homelessness—lack of affordable housing, mental health support, and economic opportunities—while meeting immediate needs for shelter and safety.

As someone who has walked a similar path, I feel a strong calling to be part of the effort to end homelessness. I want to use my voice and platform to advocate for those who often go unheard, and to contribute to building a world where everyone has access to the basic right of a safe and secure home. By addressing homelessness, we strengthen our communities, restore hope, and affirm the shared humanity that binds us all.
