I am so excited to be part of Team Fired Up for the 2022 runDisney Wine and Dine Weekend and help raise money for Dragon Master Foundation.
DMF is such an amazing organization with a mission to cure childhood cancer in OUR lifetime. I love that they specify our lifetime because as 2021 has taught me, life is extremely short.
DMF is unique from other childhood cancer research in that it focuses on the data. From dragon master.org:
- “Develop and continue expanding CAVATICA in partnership with the Children's Brain Tumor Network (CBTN). The CAVATICA platform is a free, open access research tool that enables doctors and scientists to easily share, search, and analyze large collections of patient data. The CBTN is a network of hospitals and other research institutions who have committed to sharing their data via CAVATICA.
- Incentivize a culture of collaboration by rewarding qualified researchers who choose to share their data. We do this by funding the Research Symbiont Award on a yearly basis
- Provide a system for tracking patients from on clinical trial/hospital to the next. This will give researchers better data on deaths and long-term survivors.”
DMF was inspired by David, whom at 16 years old was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme. After a 20-month battle, cancer took David from this world, but his legacy lives on. His mother and stepfather founded Dragon Master Foundation and have made their goal is using the data to help researchers recognize patterns and further research.
In 2020 I got the privilege of getting to know Amanda, president of DMF, on a personal level. The passion, drive, and love that she has for this organization is truly inspiring. I am honored to know her and being a part of Team Fired Up.
