I’m going Over The Edge to help end youth homelessness in support of YSB. YSB exists because all youth deserve safety and stability. It’s unacceptable that any young person should spend one night on the streets.
Some key issues:
With input from local law enforcement and our own client contact, YSB estimates that there may be as many as 1,200 young people (ages ranging from 12-24) who experience homelessness every year in St. Joseph County.
The longer youth remain homeless, physical assault, rape, human trafficking; and serious mental health risks are greatly amplified. ( Source: National Coalition for the Homeless)
Most LGBT youth experience homelessness because of family abuse, neglect, or conflict over their identity. Many homeless LGBT youth were kicked out of their homes while others ran from foster and group homes because they were mistreated or harassed.
46% of runaway and homeless youth reported being physically abused. ( Source: National Coalition for the Homeless)
Fifty percent of homeless youth ages 16 and older drop out of high school and face extraordinary obstacles in trying to finish
In the 2015-2016 fiscal year, YSB’s Street Outreach Program referred 45 pregnant or parenting youth to our agency’s Young Moms Self Sufficiency Program and our maternity group home program, Porch Light.
All funds raised go to support YSB’s emergency youth shelter and street outreach program that connect with youth where they are; Providing Safety, Connecting to resources, and guiding to self-sufficiency. You are just a click away from making your 100% tax-deductible donation that will help our homeless youth to become productive citizens in OUR community and gives me bragging rights over Asst. Chief Stefaniak, Mishawka P.D.
