A woman alone has power, women together have impact. That’s what YWomen is all about.

Now its 15th year of honoring outstanding women leaders, this year's YWomen will focus on the critical issue of domestic violence with a masquerade theme to honor the many faces of survivors and highlight their diverse experiences. As one of the North Shore area’s largest comprehensive domestic violence programs, we must continue to raise awareness, educate the community, provide resources, and empower survivors.

.

2024 Event Highlights Include:

  • Inspiring Program: A powerful conversation, facilitated by this year's event emcee, Sarah Malone, where attendees will hear from YWomen honorees who are making significant strides in domestic violence and learn more about YWCA's domestic violence program and its impact.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect, share, and learn with like-minded community members who are passionate about eliminating racism and empowering women.
  • Memorable Experience: Enjoy an evening of celebration, meaningful conversations, entertainment, and impactful storytelling.

Meet the 2024 Honorees!

This year's honorees, Hon. Grace G. Dickler (Ret.) and Detective Amanda Wright, have been instrumental in the fight against domestic violence. Judge Dickler, with over 30 years on the Cook County bench, has led significant reforms that enhanced equity and access to justice for survivors. Detective Wright, known for her compassionate and effective approach, has dedicated her career to supporting survivors in Evanston, advocating for victims, and building a comprehensive support network. Their combined efforts have profoundly impacted the lives of countless survivors in our community.

We will also uplift and celebrate the work of YWCA Evanston/North Shore's trauma-informed, comprehensive Domestic Violence Program, and hear a special address from this year’s Lorraine H. Morton Young Women of Promise honoree, a standout from Evanston Township High School.

The Honorable Grace G. Dickler

Meet this year's Emcee Sarah A. Malone, PhD RODC!

Sarah Malone, PhD RODC has been deeply involved with YWCA Evanston/North Shore since 2009, serving in various leadership roles including Chair of the Board of Directors.  A survivor herself, she sought shelter at the YWCA 40 years ago and has since become a passionate advocate for domestic violence survivors, inspiring them to discover their worth, claim their agency, and exercise their power to change their own lives, create a better life for their children, and strengthen their communities.

Sarah is a not-quite-retired Organizational Development Consultant and Leadership Coach with over 30 years of experience in both profit and non-profit sectors. She is a former educator.  She taught in the EdD program at Benedictine University, the MSLOC program at Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago's Grahm School.  She is a writer and poet who gives voice to what is visible yet not seen, to what's felt yet not understood--to what was, what is, and what's hoped for.
