Support the BART/MUNI Canopy Living Roofs Project today!

Nature in the City is launching a capital campaign to fund the establishment of living roofs on Market Street and provide stewardship for years to come. Everyone benefits from the revitalization and beautification of San Francisco and its wildlife.

The BART/MUNI Canopy Living Roofs Project helps support a population of Western Tiger Swallowtail butterflies living downtown in habitats made up of London plane trees and nearby parks & gardens.

BART & MUNI are building 21 station canopy entrances (designed to include living roofs & public art) from Embarcadero to Civic Center, San Francisco. We are working with the transit agencies to design, install, and care for roofs–alive with native plants–to establish elevated islands of biodiversity.

Each Canopy Living Roof will provide 650 square feet of wildlife habitat and align with the City's biodiversity, creative place-making, and climate goals outlined in the Climate Action Plan. A natural living roof corridor, among the treetops, rich with plants, insects, and birdlife, can potentially transform Market Street into a model for cities worldwide.

Will you help Nature in the City launch pilot living roofs at Montgomery and Powell Stations? Please help us reach our goal of $85,000 for one roof and $115,000 for two roofs by choosing a one-time tax-deductible donation below.

Thank you believing in the future of Downtown and for your generosity! Nature in the City is a sponsored project of Earth Island Institute, tax ID # 94-288 9684.
