Michael Sheppard, piano

Notes on Michael Sheppard's program: This program brings together two works separated by more than a century, yet united by a profound sense of searching, resonance, and transformation. Zosha Di Castri’s The Untellable Hour of Quiet explores a fragmented and unstable sonic landscape in which echoes, interruptions, and suspended gestures emerge and dissolve with haunting unpredictability. In contrast — yet also in spiritual continuity — César Franck’s monumental Prélude, Choral et Fugue gathers lyricism, architecture, and transcendence into one of the great visionary statements of the Romantic piano repertoire. Together, the two works create a journey from fracture toward illumination.
