About This Event
Join award winning artist Emma Brown in learning the expressive possibilities of charcoal in this welcoming, beginner friendly drawing class. Students will be introduced to essential materials such as vine and compressed charcoals and learn the foundational techniques such as shading, blending, and mark-making. Through guided exercises focused on light and shadow, value, texture, and simple composition, participants will build confidence, strengthen observational skills, and create dynamic drawings in a supportive environment. No prior drawing experience is required.
Instructor Bio:
Emma Brown is an artist, educator and author. She grew up in the Bay Area, and got her BFA from Copper Union in New York, and is now a practicing artist in Sacramento. She has exhibited her artwork in California, New York and Texas. She is a member of the Artists' Collaborative Gallery in Old Town Sacramento and a published children's book author and illustrator. She had been teaching for 6 years and is excited to share her knowledge and experience with you at The Learnery.
