About This Event

Bring your stories to life and revise your ideas in just 4 weeks! In this hands-on workshop, playwright and theater maker Nancy Kelly will guide you through transforming your existing draft to the next level! Whether you've completed your 1st draft or 14th, your script can always benefit from new insight and a good rewrite. In a supportive environment you will be guided to analyze your overall script structure and scenes to move you closer to your final product. Stage plays and screenplays welcome. This class is open to all experience levels.

Participants should bring a notebook and pen or laptop along with their draft script.

Week 1: Plot Structure: How is your plot functioning? Is the conflict high stakes?

Week 2: Character Development: Are your characters' flaws, needs, and wants fully fleshed out? Do they transform?

Week 3: Scenes: Beat by beat, are your scenes working? Is the event of each scene clear?

Week 4: Overview: Where did we start and where are we now? How has the script progressed? What are the next steps?

Tuesdays Feb 3-24 6pm-8pm.

Instructor Bio:

Nancy Kelly is a playwright and theater-maker currently teaching and directing locally at Sacramento Waldorf School. She holds a MFA in theater from Sarah Lawrence College and a BA in Dramatic Art from UC Berkeley. Her play Backyard/Desert is currently being developed into an independent film.
