Barley, BBQ and Beats is returning in 2025! Planning is well underway for this signature fundraising event which will be held in five locations across the state in the Spring and Fall! This will be the MAIN fundraising event the organization will hold in 2025.

All funds raised through this event will be used locally, aiding the Open Access Program at Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice, ensuring that anyone in your community needing hospice care will receive it regardless of their age, diagnosis, or financial circumstances. 

Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts. To sign up for the entire night (5-9pm), choose a job from each shift before checking out!

Things to Consider Before Signing Up

  • Volunteers must be 21 and comfortable in an environment with alcohol
  • Volunteers should wear comfortable shoes and clothes 
  • Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods of time, be able to walk long distances and navigate stairs
  • Volunteers may sign up for more than one “job” during the evening
  • We will do our best to place you in your requested volunteer area. We may need to move volunteers around if areas fill up quickly - thank you for your flexibility!
  • Volunteers who sign up BEFORE or ON August 25, 2025, will be sent their t-shirt before the event. If you sign up after, you will receive it when you arrive. Package will come from JenTees.

Volunteer Opportunities

For an exciting event of this scale, Hospice of Michigan and Arbor Hospice require many volunteers the night of the event to make the experience memorable for all participants. There are various opportunities with different time requirements throughout the event.

Please see below for descriptions of the many volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer at any of the 5 Barley, BBQ & Beats events, please click the button above to learn about the specific times and volunteer roles that are needed!

  • General Check-In and Ticket Sales - Assist with checking guests in for the event; direct guests to the proper areas; ensure unregistered attendees complete ticket purchase. Process any walk up ticket sales ($75 each). Must be comfortable using an iPhone or iPad as tickets are in the form of a QR code. 
  • Token Distributor - Ensure each guest, once checked in, receives one (1) packet of Barley, BBQ & Beats tokens (3 of each color).
  • Vendor Checks - Monitor and check-in with barbecue and distiller vendors. Ensure vendors are prepared prior to the start of the event and are supplied throughout. Collect tokens from each vendor booth periodically and return them to the additional token purchase table.
  • Vendor Token Takers - Make sure each attendee puts the correct token in the bucket at each vendor location. Tokens MUST be exchanged for food or drink samples. 
  • Donations/T-Shirt Distribution/Token Sales - Assist with additional food and beverage token sales ($5 each), donations and distributing t-shirts to guests who have donated ($50 donation/shirt). Must be comfortable handling money and/or using an iPad for transactions. Encourage donors to “Ring the Bell” or ring the bell for them!

Other Things to Know

  • Volunteers will receive details regarding their registered event including volunteer area, parking, arrival time, etc. approximately 2-3 weeks before the event. 
  • Volunteers are admitted free to the event they are working at.
  • Where applicable, volunteers’ parking fees will be covered by HOM/AH.
  • All volunteers will be given three (3) food tokens and (2) drink tokens.
  • All volunteers will work in 2hr shifts.
  • Water and pop will be available.
