Solid Ground's 2024 Day of Service

Registration ends Wednesday, 08/21/2024 11:59pm PDT

About This Event

In celebration of Solid Ground’s 50 years of changing lives, we invite you to join us for a Day of Service.  On August 23, over 300 community members will gather across five volunteer sites in Seattle to plant and tend to garden beds, beautify parks, clean our ACCESS bus fleet, and more! There are opportunities at some of our service sites and in communities that are part of our history. We’ll welcome you with coffee and pastries to fuel our collective work, and provide water and snacks to sustain us through the morning.

We can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and get to work with you!

If you are a group of 6 or more, please reach out to annac@solid-ground.org.

Solid Ground’s Day of Service: Celebrating 50 Years of Changing Lives

  • When: Friday, August 23, 2024, 9am – 12pm
  • Where: Magnuson Park, Wallingford Playfield Park, Burke-Gilman Trail in Fremont, Marra Farm in South Park, and our Transportation Hub in South Park

Please select one of the following opportunities (note that youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult):

Magnuson Park: Solid Ground houses more than 400+ people at our Sand Point Housing campus in Magnuson Park. The campus provides permanent supportive housing, affordable permanent housing, and onsite support services for formerly homeless families and individuals. Since 1999, several thousand people have stayed at Sand Point Housing in their journeys from homelessness to stability. Folks who sign up for this project will meet at a location near campus for coffee and pastries and then get to work beautifying Magnuson Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our jobs.

Wallingford: Since 1998, Solid Ground’s administrative offices have been located in Wallingford. We share the first floor with Family Works and The Seattle Library, while the top two floors house offices for staff, case management, and advocacy. We’ll meet at our offices for coffee and pastries, and then head to nearby a Wallingford park for a cleanup. The city parks department will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our jobs.

Fremont: Solid Ground started in 1974 as the Fremont Public Association in response to growing economic desperation in the Fremont neighborhood. While our footprint has expanded to the greater Seattle area and King County, our connection to Fremont remains strong. We’ll meet near the Adobe offices in Fremont for coffee and pastries, then get to work cleaning the Burke-Gilman Trail, heading both east and west. The city parks department will have all the tools and instructions we need to complete our jobs.

Marra Farm in South Park: Since 1996, Solid Ground has cultivated a 3/4-acre Giving Garden on historic urban farmland at Marra Farm in the South Park neighborhood. Each year, community members, volunteers, and staff grow thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce there. All the produce grown stays in the southwest Seattle community, nourishing residents via food banks, meal programs, health clinics, and other organizations. We’ll start with coffee and pastries and then work on building soil, preparing vegetable beds, planting vegetable starts and seeds, weeding by hand, composting, watering, harvesting, and washing produce.

Transportation Hub in South Park: Solid Ground Transportation (SGT) provides ACCESS bus services to people who cannot use Metro’s fixed-route system, helping people get to critically needed health and human services resources, and connecting people with their communities. SGT vehicles are fully accessible, equipped with lifts for loading passengers with wheelchairs and other mobility devices, and have the space to accommodate multiple passengers. Service is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We’ll meet at our location in Southpark for coffee and pastries, and then get to work cleaning our fleet of buses.
