Astrid Reischwitz: Embroidery on Photography

Join us for an immersive experience with Astrid Reischwitz as she explores personal and cultural memory at the intersection of photography and embroidery. Inspired by the spin club traditions of her Northern German village, Astrid weaves together past and present through her unique tapestry compositions.
Optional: Bring a copy of a photograph for your own embroidery project.
In her project Spin Club Tapestry, Astrid draws from the rich heritage of spin clubs, combining images of embroidered fabrics with old and new photographs from her village. By blending traditional craft with contemporary storytelling, she reimagines the lives and experiences of her ancestors—tracing their stitches, embracing their mistakes, and leaving her own mark on the evolving tapestry of memory.
Astrid Reischwitz is a lens-based artist whose work explores storytelling from a personal perspective. Using keepsakes from family life, old photographs, and storytelling strategies, she builds a visual world of memory, identity, place, and home.
Her current focus is the exploration of personal and collective memory influenced by her upbringing in Germany.
