Participation Guidelines

Please read carefully. Our parade participation processes have changed for the 2026 season.
These guidelines are mandatory and must be followed for application approval and participation.

Festival & Parade Overview

  • Festival Dates: June 27–28, 2026

  • Parade Date: Saturday morning, June 27, 2026

  • Location: Lillis Albina Park, adjacent to Harriet Tubman Middle School (Flint & Russell)

  • Weather: The parade and festival will take place rain or shine.

The parade route is currently being finalized. All approved participants will receive route, staging, and timing details once confirmed.

Application Timeline (2026)

  • Parade Applications Open: February 9, 2026

  • Parade Applications Close: June 7, 2026

Submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance. Applications may close earlier if capacity is reached.

Review, Acceptance & Payment Policy

  • All parade applications are reviewed to ensure alignment with Good in the Hood’s values and our ability to safely and effectively accommodate your group.

  • Approved participants will be notified and issued an invoice.

  • Payment Deadline:
    Participants have 14 days from the date of acceptance and invoice issuance to submit full payment and secure their place in the parade.

  • Failure to Pay:
    If payment is not received within 14 days, your parade spot will be released and offered to another applicant. Due to logistics and scheduling constraints, extensions are not guaranteed.

Refund Policy

  • 100% refundable within 14 days of payment, provided the refund request is submitted on or before April 30, 2026

  • 50% refundable within 14 days of payment for payments made between May 1 and May 31, 2026

  • No refunds after May 31, 2026, regardless of application or payment date

All refund requests must be submitted in writing and will be issued to the original form of payment.

Parade Participation Requirements

A) Family-Friendly & Community-Centered Conduct
The Good in the Hood Parade is a family-friendly, community-oriented event. Press and media will be present.

  • All performances, attire, signage, music, and conduct must be appropriate for audiences of all ages.

  • Content must be respectful, inclusive, and aligned with the spirit and values of the festival.

  • Good in the Hood reserves the right to remove participants whose conduct or content is inconsistent with these expectations, without refund.

B) Media Release & Recording
By participating, you acknowledge and consent to photography, audio recording, and video recording during the parade and festival. These materials may be used for promotional purposes in print, online, and on social media.

Due to the nature of a public parade, we cannot accommodate requests to exclude individuals or groups from being photographed or recorded. Participants who do not consent to this policy should not participate.

C) Preparation, Staging & Equipment Responsibility
Participants are fully responsible for managing their costumes, props, vehicles, floats, instruments, and any other supplies.

  • Preparation and staging windows will be limited.

  • Groups must be ready to line up at the assigned time.

  • Assistance is strongly encouraged.

Detailed staging and check-in instructions will be shared with confirmed participants closer to the event.

D) Placement & Accessibility Requests
Due to parade logistics, we are unable to accommodate most requests for special placement or sequencing.

  • We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate medical or accessibility-related needs when requested in advance.

  • If a request cannot be fulfilled, we will notify you as early as possible.

Prohibited Items & Conduct

To ensure a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly environment, the following are strictly prohibited during the parade and throughout festival grounds:

  • Weapons of any kind

  • Alcohol

  • Illegal drugs

  • Marijuana use or smoking anywhere on festival grounds

  • Open flames, fireworks, or unsafe equipment

  • Offensive, hateful, or discriminatory language, signage, or behavior

Violations may result in immediate removal from the parade and festival without refund.

  • Parade participation is included as part of sponsorship

  • Application submission is still required

Non-Commercial Community Groups

  • $125

State / County / City Officials

  • $250

Commercial Businesses

  • $350

Equity, Values & Accountability

The Good in the Hood Parade is a celebration of culture, history, creativity, and community power. Participation is a privilege and comes with responsibility.

These guidelines are applied consistently and without exception to ensure safety, fairness, and respect for all participants, spectators, volunteers, and staff. Groups that cannot meet these expectations should not apply.
