Public Hike: Mountain Creek Park

Join CLC/CTT staff for an approximately 4.25-mile hike at Mountain Creek Park located in Sherrills Ford, NC.  This 606-acre natural jewel is Catawba County’s newest regional outdoor destination (opened in June of 2022)  with nearly 20 miles of trails for users to enjoy. The park also has many other amenities that make for an enjoyable visit for all ages and abilities.

In addition to getting some exercise in a beautiful, forested setting, participants will learn the history of the park and how it came into being as a result of land conservation efforts of the Catawba Lands Conservancy in partnership with Catawba County as well as Duke Energy and the North Carolina Land and Water Fund.   

As we traverse the trails, you may hear the sounds of osprey, red-belled woodpeckers, and the friendly greetings from other hikers and occasional mountain bikers.

This gently rolling hike is considered moderate and participants should be comfortable with the distance and an approximately 2-hour duration.  Please wear appropriate attire including sturdy footwear tailored for outdoor activity.  Staff will provide some refreshments such as sports drinks and fruit, but participants should also be prepared with their own food/drink.

The entrance to the park is located directly on Little Mountain Road. If you're headed to the park and using a navigation app, please note that some apps, especially if they haven't been recently updated, may take you to the wrong location. To ensure find us, enter the park's street address or GPS coordinates (35.59855, -81.03185) to get to our entrance on Little Mountain Road. If your navigation system takes you off Little Mountain Road to find our entrance, please note this is not correct.

Parking – please bear to the right as you enter the parking area and park.  Signage will be placed to direct you.
