Local Legends 2026 Honoring Rebecca Makkai

For 17 years, Local Legends has celebrated a remarkable and ever-surprising range of voices, honoring authors, artists, and figures whose work has left a lasting mark. Part of the fun has always been discovering who we'll celebrate next, and this year's honoree will be revealed on September 1.

The main event takes place Saturday, November 14, 2026, at the History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff. Your sponsorship sustains not just one memorable evening, but the event itself and the work of the History Center throughout the year. Sponsors are the heart of Local Legends, and we're grateful for the supporters who make it possible year after year.

Patron Sponsor Events

Patron sponsors are invited to special gatherings on Friday, November 13, the day before the main event. Sponsors at the $2,500 level and above are invited to an author luncheon and book talk with this year's honoree, held at noon at the History Center. That evening, patron sponsors are welcome at a cocktail reception from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Armour Estate on the Lake Forest Academy grounds. Full details for both events will be provided to all sponsors.
