Anniversary hike at Kings Mountain National Military Park

About This Event

Come join the Carolina Thread Trail as they celebrate America 250 and commemorate the battle of Kings Mountain. Participants will hike within the historic corridor that the Overmountain Victory Men marched on their way to victory against the British and Major Patrick Ferguson during the Revolutionary War on October 7, 1780. 

The hike includes an approximately 2.5-mile hike from the Visitors Center to the edge of Kings Mountain National Military Park and then a 3.5-mile walk back to the Visitors Center and a short walk to the Kings Mountain battle memorial. Following the hike, attendees can enjoy an optional program highlighting the significance of the battle that occurred at Kings Mountain that changed the trajectory of the American Revolution.

The hike will take place from 10:30am-2:30pm, with an optional storytelling program performed by the Overmountain Victory Trail Association at 3pm at the Kings Mountain National Military Park amphitheater.

These programs are made possible because of our great partnership with the NPS, which includes the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. Come join us!

Distance: Approximately 6 miles
Difficulty: Moderate with some steep grades and rough terrain on natural surfaces

What Will Be Provided:

  • Experienced guide
  • First aid kit
  • Sunscreen and bug spray

What to Bring:

  • Comfortable clothing & closed-toe shoes
  • Water & snacks
  • Personal medication (EpiPen etc.)

Parking is expected to be limited due to high visitation. Carpooling is encouraged.
