Join us for the inaugural installment of Film School, featuring an introduction by filmmaker Ted Robinson followed by a screening of Robert Altman's Nashville (1975).

Ted Robinson is an award-wining filmmaker specializing in location and post-production audio as sound mixer and sound editor on numerous feature films, short films, and television series. Ted conceived of the Film School program for Tinworks at Rialto. He is based in Livingston, Montana.

A cornerstone of American filmmaking, Robert Altman’s Nashville is equal parts comedy, tragedy, and musical. Many of the phenomenal cast wrote their own songs and performed them live on location. Altman’s groundbreaking use of multi-track location recording transformed how dialogue and soundscapes could be captured, resulting in a narrative experiment and audio innovation that reshaped modern sound mixing. This film is rated R and is 2 hours and 40 minutes in length.

Film School is a recurring film screening and lecture series pairing landmark works of cinema with short, accessible presentations from local filmmakers and technicians. Each event highlights a specific technical or creative innovation within the film—illuminating the craft behind the art—and connects it to the work being done by regional professionals today.

Event Schedule

6pm - Doors open. Food and drinks may be purchased and brought from gute Laune upstairs to the theater downstairs to enjoy during the film.

6:25pm - Tickets will be sold to waiting list participants present at the Rialto from ticket holders who have not arrived and thereby have forfeited their tickets.

6:30pm - Short presentation by Ted Robinson prior to film screening.

9:30pm - Event concludes.

Many people are interested in this event! We ask that you purchase tickets if you are committed to attending. If you are unable to attend your workshop please contact angela.yonke@tinworksart.org within 48 hours of the event to ensure we are able to pass your ticket to someone on the waiting list in a timely manner. Tinworks understands that unforeseen circumstances may arise, but we ask that you contact us as soon as possible if you know you are unable to attend.

If registration fills, a "Waiting List" option will become available and you can select this to be added to a queue. We will contact these individuals as spots become available. We also recommend those on the waiting list come to the Rialto the night of the event to be sold available tickets the most quickly.

Parking downtown can be tricky, so we recommend arriving with plenty of time and using the parking garage located on Tracy Avenue or coming via public transportation.

Have a question, or would you like to request sponsored (free) tickets for yourself or your students contact  angela.yonke@tinworksart.org. Committed attendance requests only please.
